In the last 20 years, Schaffhausen has become a preferred location for international businesses. The Canton has consistently pursued a targeted strategy which has inspired around 600 businesses to set up operations in Schaffhausen. Many companies have established their international HQ and central business units in the region. A preferred HQ Location

Traditional manufacturing companies heralded a new era here 150 years ago. Today’s businesses work on software sensors and IoT applications, develop global marketing strategies and optimise value-chains across continents. Schaffhausen’s economy has undergone a huge transformation. In the last century, the landscape was defined by the chimneys of iron smelting furnaces and aluminum works. Today, the economy is shaped by the innovations emanating from the life science and medtech sectors here, by the development of autonomous vehicles, and by the innovative packaging sector.

Over the past 20 years, Schaffhausen has developed into a preferred location for internationally active companies. Thanks to a reliable and targeted location strategy of the canton, more than 500 internationally active companies have established a company headquarters in Schaffhausen. Today, the many international headquarters with their various functions are integrated into the Schaffhausen corporate landscape, strengthening, diversifying, and adding links to our local, regional, and global value chains.

Thanks to an active location policy, the story took a different course. Today, Schaffhausen can look back on an economic success story.

He received the "Area for Makers Ambassador" Award 2024 at the Business Leader Event in recognition of his current and future commitment to Schaffhausen’s economy.
