Pharmaceuticals

Several major multinationals have sited drug development, clinical trials, research and development, and production for pharmaceuticals in Schaffhausen. The region's high concentration of talent, proximity to Zurich and Basel, and attractive cost environment make it a competitive location for large and small operations.

MedTech

Schaffhausen's MedTech cluster bridges our regional ecosystems in Pharma/MedTech and Advanced Materials. With particular expertise in plastics and polymers and in precision manufacturing and engineering, Schaffhausen's MedTech firms develop precision instruments, devices and implants, measurement technology, lab and cleanroom tech, and innovative packaging. They are supported by distributors and trading partners with particular experience in European markets, and by technology partners and consultants with expertise in quality control, materials testing, and organizational analysis.

Circularity and Sustainability in Pharmaceuticals and MedTech

Canton Schaffhausen supports the Johnson & Johnson Circulab project, a fully-operational "disassembly line" which safely and quickly disassembles single-use injectables into component parts for recycling. The Circulab is located at SIG-Areal, a mixed-use development with industrial and scientific space in the municipality of Neuhausen am Rheinfall. 

In addition to scaling Circulab's technology, goals of the project include further research into circularity applications for the pharma and medtech industry, and the establishment of a nonprofit consortium of life sciences players interested in collaboration on circularity initiatives.
