Top-ranked for attractiveness

Though a small region, Schaffhausen offers something for everyone. Charming historical cities, rustic villages, vineyards, forests, and the Rhine offer a smorgasbord of opportunities to live, work relax, and adventure. Whether you prefer a quiet sunrise hike, an afternoon float down the river, an evening in an elegant restaurant, or a rock concert with 10,000 friends... Schaffhausen has it all.

Schaffhausen municipalities Stein am Rhein and the City of Schaffhausen achieved top rankings in the 2024 UBS Residential Attractiveness Index, which evaluates infrastructure and amenities, leisure activities, and the affordability of real estate.

Affordable living costs

Close to nature

Schaffhausen's affordable cost of living contributes to its attractiveness. Real estate, taxes, and insurance are all comparatively inexpensive in Schaffhausen, yet the amenities provided in the area are on par with Switzerland's metropolitan centers. Schaffhausen offers theater, museums, music festivals, and more - without sacrificing your disposable income or the opportunity for homeownership.

Schaffhausen abounds with natural beauty. The Rhine river invites you to swim, row, float or simply enjoy yourself, and the forests are perfect for relaxed cycling, hiking or, in winter, cross-country skiing and tobogganing. All this and more is right in your backyard.
