Unilever establishes Food Competence Centre in Thayngen

Apr 13, 2022

Unilever is reorganising its Schaffhausen locations. The international functions and Unilever Switzerland are now consolidated under one roof in the city of Schaffhausen. In a modern working environment, space is being created for collaborative working and creativity. The Knorri site in Thayngen will be converted into a food competence centre and opened up to external interested parties, such as food tech start-ups.

Unilever Switzerland is getting fit for the future. It has therefore brought its international functions and the national company together under one roof. To this end, Unilever has remodelled its premises at Schaffhausen railway station. The result is an ultra-modern working environment that is fully geared towards the future.

Production area becomes a food competence centre

Production of the Knorr portfolio for the Swiss market will remain unchanged in Thayngen. However, the relocation of the national company to the town of Schaffhausen will enable the Knorri site to be transformed. The space that becomes available is to be converted into a Foods Competence Centre and opened up to external interested parties. Investments will be made in new professional kitchens. The existing Chefmanship Centre will be expanded and modernised. This will give professional chefs even more space for workshops, further training and knowledge transfer in the future. There are also plans to attract start-ups or research and development organisations. These will benefit from the direct connection to production at the site, the extensive expertise of Knorr specialists on site and an attractive infrastructure. The aim is to create an ecosystem for nutrition and food production at the Thayngen site with the "Knorri" at its centre.

"Our 'Knorri' is the heart of the Foods Competence Centre that will be built in Thayngen. I am very pleased about this major step, which will make Unilever in Switzerland fit for the future," says Thierry Mousseigne, General Manager of Unilever in Switzerland.
