Groundbreaking for A4 Expansion: Schaffhausen Moves Closer to Zurich and the Airport

May 26, 2025

On May 26, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of the A4 expansion between Kleinandelfingen and Winterthur North. The addition of a new lane and emergency shoulder in each direction will significantly increase capacity, safety, and traffic flow on this key route.

For the Schaffhausen region, this means faster and more direct connections to the Zurich economic area and Zurich Airport – a clear advantage for businesses and commuters alike. At the same time, the region becomes even more attractive as a place to live, thanks to reduced detour traffic and shorter travel times.

Construction is set to begin in May 2025 and is expected to be completed by mid-2028. In parallel, the ongoing modernization of the High Rhine Railway between Schaffhausen and Basel marks the second major infrastructure upgrade in the region – a strong signal for the future viability and connectivity of Schaffhausen as a business and residential location.

Why choose Schaffhausen

In Schaffhausen, the distances to business, research and decision-makers are short. This is where entrepreneurs and international companies meet concentrated industrial expertise and collaboration. A region worth living in - A region for makers!
