Expansion of the A4 highway between Schaffhausen and Winterthur

Jan 17, 2024

The widening of the A4 between Kleinandelfingen and Winterthur will begin in 2025. This will improve Schaffhausen's connection to the national highway network.

The building permit has been granted and work can therefore soon begin on the widening of the A4 highway between Kleinandelfingen and Winterthur. This last single-lane section of the highway will be widened to two separate lanes from spring 2025. This will improve the connection between the Schaffhausen region and the Zurich economic area. Road safety and traffic flow will be improved. According to information from the "Bundesamt für Strassen" (ASTRA), traffic will be routed on the existing or new lanes during the approximately four-year construction period. No major traffic interruptions or road closures are planned.

The improved accessibility supports networking and exchange in the cross-border economic region at the heart of Europe and supports the growth potential in Schaffhausen, the Area for Makers. The expansion of the A4 is the second major transport project, alongside the expansion of the railroad line on the High Rhine, which will improve connections in the Area for Makers over the next few years.
