Schaffhausen supports families

In Schaffhausen, families are financially supported with family benefits.

All working parents are entitled to this benefit. Family benefits are registered and paid out via the employer and are paid monthly with the salary.

Maternity and paternity leave

In Schaffhausen, working women are entitled to 14 weeks' paid maternity leave. During this time, they continue to receive at least 80% of their salary. Mothers are not allowed to work during the first eight weeks after giving birth. This period is defined by law as maternity protection.

Fathers are legally entitled to two weeks' paid paternity leave after the birth of a child. In contrast to maternity leave, paternity leave is flexible: it can be taken all at once or in individual days within 6 months of the birth of the child. In Switzerland, it is not usual for parental leave to be freely divided between the parents.
